Solar Battery Life and Maintenance Precautions

Solar Battery Life and Maintenance Precautions

The task of the solar battery pack is to store energy so as to ensure the load power consumption at night or in rainy days. The solar batteries currently widely used in China are mainly lead-acid maintenance-free batteries and gel batteries. Today we will talk about the service life of solar batteries and precautions for use.

1. Overview of solar battery

Solar batteries are used in solar photovoltaic power generation systems. At present, there are four types of lead-acid maintenance-free batteries, ordinary lead-acid batteries, gel batteries and alkaline nickel-cadmium batteries. The currently widely used solar batteries in China are: lead-acid maintenance-free batteries and gel batteries. These two types of batteries are very suitable for reliable performance due to their inherent “maintenance-free” characteristics and less pollution to the environment. Solar power systems, especially unattended workstations.

Ordinary lead-acid batteries are mainly suitable for maintenance-capable or low-end occasions due to frequent maintenance and high environmental pollution. Alkaline nickel-cadmium storage battery has good low-temperature, overcharge and over-discharge performance, but because of its high price, it is only suitable for special occasions.

2. Solar battery life

  • Ordinary solar battery

The plates of ordinary solar batteries are composed of lead and lead oxides, and the solution is an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. Its main advantages are stable voltage and low price. The disadvantages are low specific energy, short service life and frequent daily maintenance, and the service life is about 1 year.

  • Dry charge solar battery

Its full name is dry-charged lead-acid battery. Its main feature is that the negative plate has a high power storage capacity, and it can save the obtained power within two years in a completely dry state. When using, just add electrolyte, and it can be used after 20?-30 minutes, and the service life is about 2-3 years.

  • Maintenance-free solar battery

Due to its own structural advantages, the maintenance-free solar battery consumes very little electrolyte, and basically does not need to replenish distilled water within its service life. It also has the characteristics of shock resistance, high temperature resistance, small size and small self-discharge. The service life is generally twice that of ordinary solar batteries. There are also two types of maintenance-free batteries on the market. The first type requires no maintenance after adding electrolyte once at the time of purchase. The other type is that the battery itself has been filled with electrolyte and sealed when it leaves the factory. With replenishing fluid, the service life is about 4 years.

3. Use and maintenance of solar battery

The suitable working temperature is 15-20°C.

The method of connecting the solar battery is: connect the positive pole of the solar battery to the positive pole, and the negative pole to the negative pole. In this way, the power of the solar battery will be doubled, and the voltage will be the same as that of a solar battery. The two poles of the solar battery must not be short-circuited (meet).

For the solar battery that is newly installed or charged for the first time after renovation, it should be charged for a long time. For the initial charge, it should be charged at a current of 1/10 of the rated capacity. Before installation, it is necessary to measure whether the battery is sufficient. If the power is insufficient, please charge the battery for more than 8-16 hours in a sunny place or use AC power to fully charge the battery first. Over-charging should be strictly avoided. When charging normally with alternating current, it is best to adopt the hierarchical charging method, that is, use a constant current equalization charge with a large current at the initial stage of charging, and then switch to the conventional constant voltage floating charge method after charging to the equalization charging voltage and constant voltage for a certain period of time.

Keep the battery itself clean. The installed solar battery poles should be coated with Vaseline to prevent corrosion of the poles.

Equip the solar battery with online monitoring and management technology, conduct online measurement and analysis of the internal resistance of the solar battery, find out the defects of the battery in time, and perform maintenance in time.

Prevent the solar battery from freezing and cracking in winter, and avoid direct sunlight in summer. The solar battery should be placed in a ventilated and cool place.

The above is the description of the service life of the solar battery and the precautions for maintenance. Generally, the working mode of the storage battery can be divided into two types: cycle use and float charge use. It is often in the state of frequent charge and discharge, that is, cycle use; it is often in the charge state and is used for float charge, which can make up for the capacity of the battery caused by self-discharge. loss.
